May Is Mental Health Awareness Month: Why It Matters More Than Ever
May 6, 2025
At The Palms Pharmacy we’re proud to join the nationwide effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s a powerful reminder that our emotional and psychological well-being is just as important as our physical health.
Why Mental Health Deserves the Spotlight
1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness each year. Yet, too many individuals struggle in silence due to fear, shame, or lack of access to care. Mental health affects how we think, feel, and act. It impacts our relationships, work performance, and overall quality of life.
By acknowledging the importance of mental wellness, we can begin to shift the culture from judgment to compassion and support.
Small Steps, Big Impact
You don’t need to be a mental health professional to make a difference. Here are a few meaningful ways to support your mental health and those around you:
- Check in on loved ones. A simple "How are you really doing?" can open the door to needed conversations.
- Practice self-care. Whether it’s taking a walk, journaling, unplugging from social media, or speaking to a counselor. Prioritize activities that calm your mind.
- Know the signs. Changes in sleep, mood, or appetite, withdrawal, or persistent sadness could signal someone needs help.
- Normalize therapy. Seeking help isn’t a weakness, it’s a strength.
