Many people struggle with their sleep, which can lead to a variety of other issues and impact overall quality of life. At The Palms Pharmacy, we want to see all of our patients live the healthiest lives they possibly can, which is why we have put together some useful tips for how to sleep better. These are some great strategies and techniques that you can use to fall asleep faster and stay asleep solidly. Let’s get into some of our tips for how to sleep better:

1. Keep a Consistent Schedule

One of our top suggestions for how to sleep better is to keep a consistent schedule for when you go to sleep and wake up each day. When you are consistent about your sleep habits, your body begins to learn when it should be tired and when it should be awake. This can provide substantial benefits, while inconsistent sleep can confuse the body and lead to issues such as difficulty sleeping and tiredness during the day.

2. Eliminate Distractions in the Bedroom

It is common for people to spend time on their phones or other electronic devices before going to sleep, but this can actually stimulate your brain and make going to sleep more challenging. If you are looking for suggestions on how to sleep better, try to create a relaxing and distraction-free environment in your bedroom to promote optimal sleep quality. Additionally, it can help to ensure that your room is as dark as possible and is generally cool in temperature to create an ideal sleeping environment.

3. Avoid Eating and Drinking Before Bed

When you eat or drink shortly before bed, you are putting your sleep at risk of disruption by your digestive system. It is always best to give your body 1-2 hours between your last time eating or drinking and the time you go to bed. It is especially wise to avoid caffeine and alcohol shortly before bed, as both have the potential to disrupt your sleep.

4. Exercise Regularly

Although it might not seem like regular exercise is a tip for how to sleep better, it can help in several ways! By exercising during the day, you are setting your body up for more restful sleep at night, as studies have shown decreased time to fall asleep in those who exercise regularly. Even something as simple as a brisk walk or bike ride may be able to help you when nighttime rolls around!

5. Find Ways to Relax Before Bed

Sometimes, the stress of daily life can make it difficult to sleep soundly at night. When this is the case, try to find ways to relax before bed and eliminate these distractions from your bedtime routine. For instance, a brief meditation or some time spent reading a book may be able to help you relax and get into the right state of mind for sleeping.

When you utilize these helpful tips for how to sleep better, you can enjoy more restful sleep and wake up feeling your best each morning.
